Jeff Bauman: The Boston Marathon Survivor Who Lost His Legs

The True Story of Jeff Bauman

Jeff Bauman was born on January 2, 1986 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was working as a waiter at a restaurant near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, when two pressure cooker bombs exploded. Bauman was standing near the second bomb when it detonated, and he lost both of his legs below the knees. He was also severely injured in his arms and face.

The Aftermath of the Bombing

Bauman underwent multiple surgeries in the days and weeks following the bombing. He spent several months in the hospital, and he underwent extensive rehabilitation to learn how to walk again with prosthetic legs. Bauman has since become a symbol of hope and resilience for others who have suffered traumatic injuries.

Jeff Bauman's Book and Film

In 2014, Bauman published a book about his experience, titled "Stronger." The book was adapted into a film of the same name in 2017, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Bauman. The film tells the story of Bauman's recovery from the bombing and his journey to find purpose in his life.
