Perry's legacy as an accomplished waterman was well-established. The eight-year veteran of Honolulu Ocean Safety was a lifeguard and professional surfer who grew up on the beaches of Oahu, Hawaii. His exceptional skills and bravery on the waves earned him a reputation as a local celebrity.
