Early Life and Education

Hassan Nasrallah was born on August 31, 1960, in Bourj Hammoud, Lebanon. His parents were Lebanese Shiite Muslims from the southern village of Bazouriyeh. Nasrallah's father, Abd al-Karim Nasrallah, was a school teacher and his mother, Umm Ali Nasrallah, was a housewife.

Nasrallah attended primary and secondary schools in Bourj Hammoud. He was a bright and diligent student, and he excelled in his studies. After graduating from secondary school, Nasrallah enrolled in the American University of Beirut (AUB) to study philosophy.

Political Activism and the Founding of Hezbollah

Nasrallah became politically active while he was a student at AUB. He joined the Islamic Amal Movement, a Shiite Muslim political party founded by Musa al-Sadr. Nasrallah quickly rose through the ranks of the party, and he became one of its most prominent leaders.

In 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon. Nasrallah played a key role in organizing the resistance to the Israeli occupation. He helped to found Hezbollah, a Shiite Muslim militant group, and he became its secretary-general in 1992.

Hezbollah's Leader

Under Nasrallah's leadership, Hezbollah grew into a powerful military and political force in Lebanon. The group fought against Israel in a series of wars, and it played a major role in the Lebanese civil war.

Nasrallah was a charismatic leader who was able to inspire his followers. He was also a skilled military strategist, and he led Hezbollah to several victories against Israel.

Death and Legacy

Nasrallah died on August 25, 2023, at the age of 62. He had been suffering from cancer for several years. Nasrallah's death was a major loss for Hezbollah and for the Shiite community in Lebanon.
